Sixth grade girls in Washington County are invited to participate in the 18th annual Sister to Sister Summit of Washington County scheduled for April 11. Young women in high school are invited to apply to serve as peer facilitators for the Summit. The Summit is a free late night event that will be held at Citizens Library in Washington from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
This late-night conference is sponsored and funded locally by Domestic Violence Services of Southwestern Pennsylvania (DVSSP), the Washington branch and Business and Professional Women (BPW) and Washington Health System Teen Outreach Adolescent Health Academy with support from Citizens Library. This summit is not sponsored by or affiliated with any Washington County school district.
At the Summit, peer facilitators – young women from area high schools who receive training in the Summit topics – will lead small group discussions and a variety of other activities to address critical areas of concern such as dealing with peer pressure, decision making, creating positive friendships, body image, bullying, personal safety and self-defense, and dating and relationships.
Team-building activities, fun activities and group discussions will round out the agenda. Participant application forms are available by emailing tr@peacefromdv.org. Applications will be due by April 8, either by email to tr@peacefromdv.org or by mail to DVSSP Attn: Taylor Dardick, 371 Low Hill Rd. Brownsville, PA 15417.
All participating sixth graders must submit a signed Parental Consent Form and photo release. Facilitators and women serving as adult chaperones must have all required state and federal clearances.
