Community effort breathes new life into safe house
We are thrilled to share that much-needed renovations are now complete at the Washington Safe House.
Thanks to the generosity and support of Range Resources' women's employee resources group, as well as numerous community partners, the safe house will continue to be a true sanctuary for survivors of domestic violence and their children, at a time when comfort is needed most.
Over the past few years, Range Resources has led efforts to upgrade the living room, bedrooms, deck, playground, and maintenance areas. These improvements sparked a groundswell of community support, bringing together contributions from companies like Levin Furniture, Home Depot Foundation, Sherwin Williams, and Dons Appliances in a full renovation of the kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry area.
McQueen Building Company, based in Upper St. Clair, has spearheaded this latest phase, building and donating custom cabinets to create a safer, more functional kitchen layout. As the heart of the home, the upgraded kitchen provides survivors and their families with a welcoming space to gather and heal.
Significant repairs and added storage in the laundry area will also improve daily living for residents. The project, which began on October 7, was completed just in time for Thanksgiving.
The Washington Safe House served as a sanctuary for many in 2023, providing 1,315 nights of shelter to adults and 477 nights for children.
