What do you do for DVSSP and for how long have you been involved?

I have been volunteering with DVSSP for going on 14 years. I have volunteered in many capacities. I have watched children while their parents were in a support group, facilitated a support group, manned (many) community education tables, worked at the PFA office, helped with the Adopt a Family program, and cleaning up the grounds at the safe house, among others. Currently, I am assisting DVSSP in starting a medical advocacy program.

What led you to DVSSP?

My personal experience with domestic violence and finding an opportunity to help others in that situation and, most importantly, a desire to make a difference.

Describe your work in three words.

Interesting, community, educational

What is one thing you wish you would have known when you started with DVSSP?

I wish I had better understood the wide variety of ways you could volunteer.

What's one mistake you have made during your involvement and what have you learned from it?

I started volunteering early on in one program and stayed with it for a few years. In time, I realized it didn’t fit my personality or circumstances anymore. There are so many ways to volunteer at DVSSP! I should have explored more.

What is the best thing about working at DVSSP?

Meeting smart, passionate people that want to make a difference, as well as the growth of the organization in my many years as a volunteer!

What project are you currently working on that excites you the most?

I am very excited about starting the medical advocacy program. I feel it could be of great use and is needed.

If you could add one thing to DVSSP with the sky being the limit, what would it be?

More volunteers to this important cause and abundant funding to cover all current and future projects.

What did you want to grow up to be when you were a kid?

I dreamed about being a dancer/actor starring in movie musicals!

Create a movie title for your work with DVSSP.
